Eye make up is one of the many pleasures in my life and I like to test out different brands and the products they have to offer. One day I might stick to one but if I’m being honest nothing has ever really ticked all the boxes for me. I am well aware I am probably a little bit too picky and there never really will be one eye liner that fits the bill. That doesn’t mean that I can’t keep trying though does it?
The most recent buy and try to my collection is Charlotte Tilbury rock ‘n’ kohl and full fat mascara. I am beyond late to the Charlotte Tilbury party, apart from picking up a lipstick and an eyeshadow palette for my mum these were the first items that I had bought for myself from the line. Very exciting, I know. As we aren’t lucky enough to have a Charlotte Tilbury counter in Scotland – please can this be rectified asap – I made my purchase on John Lewis and collected in store the next day. That is literally the best service ever.
Being an eye liner obsessive I naturally had to pick up the kohl pencil from one of the Queen’s of eye liner (she sits alongside Claudia Winkleman, Sofia Loren, Bridgette Bardot and of course Audrey Hepburn!) Bedroom black rock ‘n’ kohl is a highly pigmented black (as you would expect!) liner that smudges really well and has great staying power. My only moan is that it doesn’t stay all that well in your water line but it does say on the packaging that it isn’t actually meant for use inside the eye so I can’t really hold that against the rock ‘n’ kohl! In terms of pigmentation and ability to smudge, this eyeliner is one of the best there is. It is also really buildable without leaving you look like you are going for the panda look. Not a good look.
When it comes to mascara the crown has sat with YSL Faux cils more years. It has always been my favourite mascara due to the volume and drama it adds to your lashes. Full fat is not a disappointing purchase. Jet black – excellent – with great curl and lift – excellent, excellent – and none of those crusty, clumpy lashes – yes, excellent. In my opinion, this is definitely up there with the faux cils of this world and it falls into the same price bracket so you don’t feel like you are totally breaking the bank.
A major positive of this mascara is the fact that there isn’t any crispy fall out which is never a good look and it adds volume and definition without your lashes ending up looking a bit too false. You can layer up the full fat mascara for a more dramatic look if that is your thing.
