How to: Granola

Being allergic to nuts I find it difficult to get a nut free granola that is healthy and doesn’t burst the purse strings. While whiling away one of the many hours I spend on the inter-web I came across bloggers making granola for themselves. Skip forward 3 years and I am still following the same basic recipe to create myself a filling, healthy and tasty breakfast. I know you are probably thinking ehhh Emma, there are honey and golden syrup in this? – there isn’t a huge quantity in it and a little bit of sugar isn’t harmful!

Ingredients

   Oats

Golden Syrup

Honey

Olive Oil

Raisins/Sultanas/Mixed dried fruit


Add your quantity of choice of oats to a large bowl – I like to make big batches so generally I use a whole box of oats. I then mix in a dessert spoon of oil into the oats, this will stop the oats from clumping together when they are cooked, after the oil I like to add in 1/2 a dessert spoonful of honey and the same of golden syrup.

I mix these in and then mix in my dried fruit. Once This is all mixed in, pop your granola mix into a baking tray and into the oven it goes for about 8 minutes at 200 degrees. Once the 8 minutes are up, take it out the oven and leave to cool. Pop in a jar and breakfast is ready to go for the week! It is that easy.

Sometimes I like to chuck in dried cranberries or chop up some banana or blueberries to have with my granola and yoghurt in the morning. It adds some new flavours to the mix.
