How to: French 77

“The style icon and all round great gal is more of a fan of a French 76 but being a gin enthusiast, you know I would be after the cousin of a 76. Step forth French 77.”

The French 77, sometimes known as the elder-flower French 75 – don’t ask me why, I do not know – is a cocktail that encompasses pretty much 99% of my favourite things. Minus Tom Hardy, eyeliner and peppermint tea but a gal can’t have it all.

The delights of a French 77 first came into my world when I watched a video from Elle magazine that was Kate Moss (girl crushing) getting ready. If you haven’t watched it, do. You can find it here. The style icon and all round great gal is more of a fan of a French 76 but being a gin enthusiast, you know I would be after the cousin of a 76. Step forth French 77.

 The Ingredients

A bottle of Prosecco or Champagne

1 Shot glass of gin

Half a shot glass of elderflower liqueur

Half a shot glass of lemon juice

Lemon slice to garnish – twist it if you are feeling fancy

The Method

Mix your shot glass of gin, ice and lemon juice in a shaker with ice. If you don’t have a shaker then a protein shake cup works pretty much the same. Shake the mixture well and then pour into a chilled tall glass. Top with your fizzy wine – prosecco or champagne whatever you choose – before finishing with your lemon garnish.

Easy and delicious. What more could you want from a cocktail?!

Tip: Don’t get too into how easy these are to drink and double the gin quantity unless you want to end up steaming drunk and in bed by 9pm…
