We are pretty much in the peak of summer now which means that we are all pretty comfortable in our summer beauty routines, you know the important things in life… I haven’t been trying too many new products this summer instead I have found a handful of products and stuck to them because why change it if it works!
From skincare to nail polish and makeup, my Summer Beauty Picks has it all.
When the warmer (ish) months roll around I’m not one for changing my routine completely. I know some people totally turn their routine on it’s head for different season but I, alas, am not one of them. Instead I switch up a few products but keep the core of what I have previously used the same. There are days that I use a tinted moisturiser rather than a foundation but those days are few and far between because I just need a layer of my Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation to make me feel all sassy and ready for the day. What’s a gal to do? I still manage pretty darn well to introduce new products into my routine even though I stick to my old faithful products.

Pixi Glow Tonic: Shop Here
A product fast becoming a cult classic. This tonic gently removes dead skin cells to reveal skin that is glowing. That may sound like a marketing schpeal but trust me, it really really works. When it comes to skincare, anything that claims to add glow is a massive selling point for me. I am all about getting that really healthy, beautiful glow. Using the Pixi Glow Tonic morning and evening after cleansing has worked wonders on my skin. It looks healthier, feels soft and looks tigher. It definetely doesn’t feel tight which is a massive no-no when it comes to skincare, in my opinion. Another positive – it doesn’t dry out the skin which I was a little bit dubious about before I started using it. Are you a Pixi fan? What other products would you recomend?
Nails Inc Gel Effect in Portland Square: Shop Here
A new nail polish is not something that I need. I have them coming out of my ears but having 4 reds that are all very similar but look slightly different when you are in certain lights are all essentials…
Portland Square had been a polish I had been lusting after for months but had never really found a strong justification for picking it up. Then I left my old job and they very kindly gifted me a Feel Unique voucher so then it felt justified.
Gel lines from High Street nail brands aren’t my favourite by any means however the Nails Inc range may be a game changer. It just looks and feels better on the nails. I can’t really explain what it is it, it just does! Portland Square is a beautiful orange-red colour that doesn’t lose its vibrancy over the course of wearing the polish. It is a bright, eye-catching shade that adds a little pop of colour to my mostly all black outfits.
Dove Derma Spa Summer Revived Medium to Dark Skin Body Lotion: Shop Here
Back in the day (and every few months now-a-days) I was a massive fan of slapping on some St Moriz and rocking the orange glow. Something about having a tan just makes me feel like an all round sassy, bad ass gal. I have come to terms with the fact that being close to the colour of teak is not a good look… Having stained palms and turning into something that resembles a lizard is not a great look. This doesn’t change the fact that I bloody love having a little sun kissed glow going on.
A former work colleague recomended the Dove gradual tanner body lotion to me for a healthy yet subtle glow. She recommended the medium to dark to satisfy my former glow-getter self of years gone by. The Derma Summer Revived body lotion is a great product. Unlike other gradual tanners, this product does moisturise as well as adding a subtle glow which is great as I have pretty dry skin. The tan is buildable and after a few days you do have a subtle warmth to your skin. Another thing I love about this product? It wears evenly and doesn’t require a really harsh exfoliation to get rid of it all.
MAC Alessandra Lipstick
If you are interested in beauty at all then I am sure you will have come across the MAC Alessandra lipstick. This was created by Glamour UK Beauty Director, Alessandra Steinherr as her perfect nude. This lipstick is beautiful. Totally beautiful. A pink nude with a lustre finish, this is a really wearable lipstick that is easy to reapply on the go. As with MAC lipsticks, this smells gorgeous and is a wonderful product. Unfortunately, I don’t think it is avaliable anymore as despite my best internet digging efforts I can’t find it online!
This is the perfect, everyday pink based nude lipstick that looks great with all skintones and makeup looks. If you can find it then snatch it up!
YSL The Shock Mascara: Shop Here
YSL Faux Cils has been a desert island product for me for years. It is my favourite mascara due to its intense volume, serperation and staying power. When I saw Sali Hughes (who doesn’t love that gal?!) talking about The Shock mascara from YSL I knew that giving it a try was essential. Although it hasn’t manage to replace my one true love of Faux Cils, The Shock is a great product for volume and lift. As with other YSL mascaras I have tried, at first the product is a little too wet but once you’ve used it a couple of times it dries to a really great mascara. This teamed with a smudged out black liner and a nude lip is perfection.
I would love to hear what products are in your Summer picks, any excuse to read about beauty products and browse them online really!
