The Pre-Autumn Edit: Fashion

“Summer dressing and I do not get on. Autumn dressing and I however do get on. We get on really well. A match made in heaven some may say.”

The end of August always really marks the end of Summer to me. Maybe it is tied to school days and the end of August signalled back to school – who knows. Summer coming to a close also means that Autumn, my favourite season, is not far off. I love the light, bright mornings and evenings of Summer but dressing for that season is not my thing. Summer dressing and I do not get on. Autumn dressing and I however do get on. We get on really well. A match made in heaven some may say.

I love the jumpers, the ankle boots, the scarves – I love it all. Give me a bit of knit wear over a bikini anyday. Transitioning into Autumn can be tricky because it is cooler but it isn’t cold. Somedays you end up overheating and swimming in prespiration. Not chic.

Three Tips for your Transitional Wardrobe

  1. Layers – Being able to add or remove items will make your transitional outfit more effective. The weather may be mild come the afternoon but when you left the house that morning it was a little bit nippy. Removing a thin knit jumper to reveal a great slogan tee is the perfect way to transition from Summer to Autumn.]
  2. Invest in pieces you can wear for Autumn/Winter –  This ties into the layering tip. If you buy pieces that you can use to layer up when full on Autumn/Winter hits then you will have a great selection of pieces that you can mix and match when the chill really comes. That thin knit jumper can be worn under a really great, cosy coat and have a good base layer underneath to ensure you stay toasty warm.
  3. Check the trend reports – Sounds wanky, probably is but having a little check through the trend reports for the coming season means that you can plan ahead for your Autumn/Winter wardrobe and then get investing in the pieces you are after. Red is set to be big this A/W (excited squeals) as is tailoring meaning that now might be the perfect time to invest in that great, houndstooth blazer you have been eyeing up in Zara. And guess what, you can layer it up! A great buy in my opinion.
